The Laser Gas Remote Detector can quickly and efficiently detects methane leaks up to 50 metersaway instead of having to walk the entire length of the service line to check. Remote detection allowsthe user to safely survey areas that may be hard to reach or difficult terrains, such as busy roadways,locked gates, pipes suspended under a bridge, indoor commercial piping and other hard to accessplaces.
The Laser Gas Remote Detector uses Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy (TDLS) technology. The LaserGas Remote Detector consists of two interactive subsystems: a transceiver subsystem and a signalprocessing subsystem. The transceiver subsystem has two lasers: an infrared laser and a green / redspotter laser. The infrared laser is non-visible and is continuously on while the Laser Gas RemoteDetector ’s start button is pressed. The green / red spotter laser is similar to those used forpresentation pointers and is turned on by the operator pressing the start button. When the infraredlaser is transmitted from the launch port and passes through gas, the methane absorbs a portion ofthe light, and then some of the laser light is reflected by a normal background such as brick, concrete,grass, etc., to the detector. The laser is selective to methane only. It will not false alarm on otherhydrocarbons. This reflected light is collected and converted to an electrical signal that carries theinformation. The signal processing subsystem deduces the relative methane concentration that can bereported in ppm-m or %vol. Data transfer methods such as data store,Bluetooth, WiFi, etc., are alsopossible, depending on customer requirements.
